The Tilley Lofts in Watervliet, N.Y., Consigli Construction has been awarded a 2015 LEED Homes Award for Outstanding Multifamily Project by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The annual LEED Homes Awards recognize architects, developers, homebuilders and projects that have demonstrated outstanding leadership and innovation in the residential green building marketplace.

“Helping to protect the environment is a top priority for our company, so this award is a tremendous honor,” said Greg Burns, President of New York Operations for Consigli. “The Tilley Lofts project was ambitious in its goals to meet LEED standards and we’re thrilled that we not only met them, but are recognized for our work and efforts to do so.”

The $7 million project focused on the complete transformation of the 80,000 square-foot Tilley Ladder Warehouse into 63 modern, upscale loft-style apartments on a fast-track six month schedule.

Originally built in the early 1900s and mostly vacant over the last decade, the existing building underwent a historic renovation, including masonry repairs, window replacements, installation of a geothermal well and heating systems, a new combined heat and power unit and a partial roof replacement. Interior demolition paved the way for the new living units and elevator. Site improvements included a new parking lot and sidewalk replacements. The project was designed to meet state historic preservation guidelines and comply with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

The LEED Homes Award winners include multi-family, single-family and affordable housing projects and companies that are trailblazers in the residential sector and have prioritized incorporating sustainability within their projects in 2015.

LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) has become the world’s most recognized rating system for green buildings. The LEED for Homes rating system was created in 2008 as a way for single-family homes and multi-family buildings to achieve LEED certification. LEED for Homes projects undergo a technically rigorous process to become certified, including multiple on-site inspections and diagnostic tests.
