PORTLAND, ME \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Consigli Construction Co., Inc. (Consigli) received a 2014 Maine Preservation Statewide Honor Award for the exterior restoration of the Maine State House dome at an awards ceremony held yesterday at the Portland Country Club in Falmouth.<\/p>\n

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Maine State House in Augusta was designed by renowned architect, Charles Bulfinch, and completed in 1832. An expansion and major remodeling during 1909-1910 added the 185-foot high copper-covered dome, topped by a gold-clad copper \u201cLady Wisdom\u201d statue, designed by W. Clark Noble of Gardiner. This is the first replacement of the 7,000 square-foot, 100+-year old dome and restoration of the Lady Wisdom sculpture since their installation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have restored a number of Maine\u2019s historic landmarks and are very pleased that the work on this important building has been recognized among the best and most transformative historic preservation efforts in the state,\u201d said Matthew Tonello, Area Manager of Consigli\u2019s Portland office.<\/p>\n

In collaboration with Becker Structural Engineers, Inc., The Heritage Company, EverGreene Architectural Arts, E.S. Boulos Company, Independent Roof Services, Safway Services, LLC and ACE Corporation, Consigli completed the full copper dome replacement, including lighting upgrades and restoration of the statue.\u00a0 The new LED lights installed in the statue\u2019s torch will last for more than 30 years as the dome gradually oxidizes changing to a green patina.\u00a0\u00a0 Architect for the project was LEO A Daly.<\/p>\n

The Maine Preservation Honor Awards recognize excellence in historic preservation throughout the state, highlighting the importance of preservation, rehabilitation and adaptive use of historic Maine landmarks and heritage trades.\u00a0 A total of eleven projects awards and four individual awards were presented this year to property owners, developers, architects, contractors, preservation consultants, and other team members who have demonstrated great achievement and best practices in historic preservation in Maine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
