RYE, NY – New York Blood Center Enterprises (NYBCe) and Consigli Construction Co., Inc. hosted a blood drive this week at the site of the New York Blood Center Enterprises’s (NYBCe) future, state-of-the-art campus in Rye. The blood drive was organized as part of Consigli’s ongoing commitment to support the community in which their team builds, lives, and works and bolstered NYBCe’s unparalleled efforts to support public health in the region.

Participants, including members of the Consigli project team, subcontractors, and project stakeholders, came together to donate blood and support the life-saving work done by NYBC and its efforts to ensure sufficient blood supplies for patients in-need.

“Yesterday’s blood drive was a success with 32 donations and we’re grateful for Consigli Construction Co., Inc.’s support,” said Andrea Cefarelli, Senior VP of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs for New York Blood Center Enterprises. “Not only is Consigli helping us replenish the blood supply, they are working with us to build a new campus that will enable life-saving research, blood processing, and cell therapy manufacturing, fulfilling our mission to provide healthcare worldwide.”

“When delivering meaningful projects like the New York Blood Center’s new regional campus, Consigli prioritizes our commitment to build beyond ourselves,” said Bill Allan, Consigli Director of Operations – New York/Tri-State Region. “We are proud to support the local community and serve as strong partners to not just the New York Blood Center team, but to all of the families and individuals who benefit from the invaluable resources, research and care that it provides.”

The new, multipurpose NYBCe campus in Rye broke ground in June 2023, and when complete, will be the future home to NYBC’s tri-state operations, including space for life sciences research, blood collections, distribution warehouse, processing and cell therapy manufacturing. It will also house the organization’s world-renowned Research Institute and research laboratories. The 187,000 sq. ft. will serve as the first-ever single campus for NYBC.

Construction remains underway and is expected to complete by the end of the year.

HUDSON, NY – As part of its longstanding relationship with Hudson Hall, Consigli employee volunteers and members of its self-performing division recently donated labor and materials for the set design and construction of Hudson Hall’s upcoming opera, Rodelinda.

Consigli Construction Co., Inc. completed the restoration of Hudson Hall at the historic Hudson Opera House in 2017, which, to date, represented New York’s oldest surviving theater’s most significant upgrade project. The Consigli team has maintained a close and collaborative relationship with Hudson Hall and its executive leadership since the beginning of their initial partnership and remains committed to supporting its mission and arts community.

“For Hudson Hall, Consigli is The Dream Team,” said Tambra Dillon, Executive Director of Hudson Hall. “When we dreamed of returning New York State’s oldest surviving theater to community use, not only did Consigli do a stunning restoration, but they completed the project ahead of time. Then, Consigli was the first to invest in Hudson Hall’s historic tax credits and has always stepped up to show their support.”

After receiving high prices from builders in the area when searching for a company to construct their set for Rodelinda, Hudson Hall reached out to Consigli for guidance. Rather than recommend a local set builder within their budget, Consigli offered to build the set at no cost to the organization.

“For Consigli, the Hudson Hall renovation ended up being much more than a construction project,” said Scott Cruikshank, Project Executive. “After witnessing their dedication to the community, mission and historic building, we left the project wanting to always help or do more. When the opportunity to build their Rodelinda set presented itself, we jumped at it, not only to help assist in this amazing production, but to again be with the Hudson Hall people that we so appreciate.”

Throughout the fall, Consigli’s team from the millwork shop worked with the production’s director, R.B. Schlather, to help guide the set construction and build important items like doors, tables and platforms to complete the vision.

“We treated the set building like one of our construction projects – we had a schedule and a plan,” said Cruikshank. “The Consigli team met regularly with the director and the Hudson Hall staff to coordinate everything from paint colors and architecture to building access. For us, the work was straightforward and fun.”

In early October, volunteers from Consigli’s New York regional offices spent time assisting the self-perform team with building walls, installing windows and doors, and painting the set once complete. As part of its commitment to positively impacting the communities where its teams live and work, Consigli offers employees 24 paid volunteer hours to use annually.

“Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine Consigli would be so generous as to build us a beautiful set for our upcoming production of Rodelinda,” said Dillon. “We are so grateful to the entire Consigli crew for their skills, generosity, and commitment to supporting the community.”

MILFORD, MA – Consigli Construction Co., Inc. and the Consigli Foundation recently supported the Juniper Outreach Foundation’s efforts to convert a supply closet at City View Discovery Elementary School in Worcester into a food pantry for students.

A team of Consigli volunteers completed light renovations on the space, including shelf and carpet installation, painting and patching walls. The new food pantry allows students to receive food, toiletries and other necessities in a safe and welcoming place and will help combat food insecurity for local families. One hundred percent of the student population at City View is eligible for free or reduced-price school meals.

UMass Chan Medical School and Stop & Shop also partnered with the Juniper Outreach Foundation to help stock the food pantry renovated by Consigli employees for the remainder of the 2023 school year.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at City View Discovery Elementary School to celebrate this new resource for the families served by Worcester Public Schools.

“This is our first collaboration with Consigli, and I really want to thank Consigli for making this all a dream come true for this school and for the kids,” said Julie McDonald, Executive Director of the Juniper Outreach Foundation. “Thank you to the Consigli team for coming in here and meticulously cleaning and plastering the walls and putting the shelving up to make this great sunny space.”

“Consigli Construction is committed to building beyond ourselves, and the Consigli Foundation bolsters that mission by giving back to the communities where our teams live and work,” said Michael Fales, Chief Human Resources Officer at Consigli Construction Co., Inc. “No child should have to worry where their next meal is coming from, and the Consigli Foundation is grateful to the Juniper Outreach Foundation and Stop & Shop for its work to support children and families in the Worcester area, and to have had the opportunity to partner on this meaningful cause.”

“This is certainly a labor of love that began with UMass Chan two years ago, and we’re so appreciative that others like Juniper and Consigli Construction have joined us in this effort,” said Jennifer Brogan, Stop & Shop director of community relations.

BOSTON, MA – The Consigli Foundation presents a donation of $25,000 to The Greater Boston Food Bank. In addition, an overwhelming amount of non-perishable goods were collected across Consigli Construction Co., Inc.’s jobsites in Massachusetts. The donations were presented to the food bank on Tuesday, December 22nd. The movement was motivated by Consigli’s drive to support the local Boston community amidst what has been a challenging year for many. The donation will go to providing more than 78,000 meals for the community.

Consigli’s Director of Operations-Boston Ryan Jennette, General Superintendent Gabe Mater, and Senior Superintendent Sean Fitzgerald present a $25,000 donation to Cheryl Schondek, Senior Vice President from The Greater Boston Food Bank

“Thank you to Consigli for today’s donation of food, money and ongoing volunteer time. The holidays are looking much different for everyone this year, and many families will be experiencing food insecurity for the first time due of the impact of the COVID-19 crisis,” said Cheryl Schondek, Senior Vice President of The Greater Boston Food Bank. “With your ongoing support, we can end hunger here.”

This is the latest chapter in Consigli’s relationship with the City of Boston and The Greater Boston Food Bank. Consigli was a key partner in the original construction of The Greater Boston Food Bank’s Yawkey Distribution Center back in 2009, which allowed the organization to double the size of its existing warehouse by creating a new, sustainable headquarters in Boston’s South End. This new location accommodated 50 million pounds of food – a 67% increase over the old facility – and was built based on a zero export plan reusing existing pile caps and contaminated soil to save nearly $1M for the organization.

Donations collected across Consigli jobsites in Massachusetts.

“2020 has been hard on many local families and they need our support now more than ever,” said Ryan Jennette, Director of Boston Operations for Consigli Construction Co., Inc. “We are grateful to have the opportunity give back to our local Boston community and continue to support the Greater Boston Food Bank.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – For the third year in a row, Consigli’s D.C. office led a backpack drive to support local children through the Community of Hope, a non-profit working to end family homelessness. With the uncertainty of when classrooms will re-open, the 140 backpacks aimed to deliver as much hope as they did necessary supplies.

“We want to give the kids at Community of Hope the hope that they will be going back to school to get their education.

Cynthia Davis

Director of Community Donations

Consigli’s D.C. team and two local partners stuffed backpacks with crayons, folders, paper, notebooks, scissors, rulers, markers, pencil pouches, glue, erasers and Disney hand sanitizer for the children at Community of Hope’s transitional homes.

Michelle Evans, Consigli Business Manager, has been involved with the Community of Hope for 16 years and spearheaded this year’s drive.

Like everything at Consigli, it was a team effort. Many people in our D.C. office jumped in to help throughout the five-week drive.

“This was the best backpack drive we’ve ever done. We normally do 30-35 backpacks. This year, we doubled it and partnered with two other companies – Menkiti Group, our MLK Gateway Project client, and H2DesignBuild, our general contractor partner.

Michelle Evans

Consigli Business Manager

With the MLK Gateway Project underway in the same ward of D.C. as the Community of Hope, Menkiti Group and H2DesignBuild were eager to get involved.

Consigli donated 70 stuffed backpacks, surpassing our goal of 50. Menkiti Group provided 50 and H2DesignBuild provided 20. Our local subcontractors Livingston Fire Protection, Max Electric and BB & Co Construction also made donations to the drive.

Together, Consigli’s D.C. team surpassed our goal with the 2020 backpack drive while supporting the next generation in our community!

MILFORD, MAGirls Inc. of Worcester announced that it has appointed Consigli’s Director of Financial Systems Pam Daly as president of the Board of Directors, and also named Project Executive Jody Staruk as a member of the board.

Girls Inc. of Worcester inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. They put their mission into practice through the Girls Inc. experience, which equips girls to navigate gender, economic and social barriers and grow into healthy, educated and independent adults.

Daly is a native of Worcester and also an alumnus of Girls, Inc. As Board President, she will help guide and make decisions about programs that continue to be impactful for girls. “As an Alum I am thrilled to remain involved with Girls Inc. as both a volunteer and a board member, and very humbled to take on the role of Board President” said Daly. “Advocacy is one of the features of Girls Inc. that draws me the most.  From combatting bullying, economic independence, and mental health awareness, the programs that Girls Inc. provides deal with important real-life issues that make an impact on girls, their families, and the community.”

Consigli Project Executive Jody Staruk joins the board at Girls Inc. after two years volunteering for the organization’s Eureka! Program. The Consigli Foundation sponsors the 5-year program that exposes high-school-age members of Girls Inc. to a year-round intensive STEM program that engages and empowers girls as they discover opportunities in STEM fields. As part of the program Staruk has toured girls on her job sites to see the roles that women are playing on construction projects. “I love the organization’s mission helping girls be strong, smart and bold,” said Staruk.  “A lot of the women I work with embody this, and I love being able to help the next generation of women be that and also expose them to STEM-based careers.”

“Girls Inc. of Worcester is honored to elect Pam Daly as the Board President and Jody Staruk as a member of the Board of Directors,” said Girls Inc. CEO Victoria Waterman. “Pam and Jody have successfully demonstrated how to be strong, smart and bold leaders in male dominated positions in a male dominated industry.  Thanks to the support of organizations like Consigli and strong women role models like Pam and Jody, I believe the future is bright for the young women in our community!”

“Now, survivors are coming to a place that feels like a home rather than a shelter to help them during their recovery.” – Nathan MacDonald, director of development and communications at Family Violence Project

Across our projects, one thing always remains constant: we aim to build and create places that drive deeper connections within communities. Recently, our Portland team worked on a project at Family Violence Project (FVP) in Maine, an organization dedicated to ending domestic violence. FVP offers support to abuse victims and also has two shelters for those seeking help and who need a safe place to stay. One of the shelters was in desperate need of an upgrade and general maintenance improvements. To help FVP, Consigli and a team of subcontractors assessed the shelter and committed to doing a complete renovation of the shelter. The main goal was to make this space feel more like a home and less like a shelter.

Like many mission-based organizations, FVP relies heavily on donor support and funding, which means managing a tight budget in order to offer its services. The shelter was a 100-year-old house with six bedrooms converted into efficiency apartments and the front entrance had an unsafe ramp largely used by mothers with strollers. The flooring needed to be replaced, there were plumbing issues throughout, and there were overall general maintenance issues that needed to be addressed. Further, this project was also unlike others in that it was critical to keep the anonymity of FVP’s clients in order to keep them safe. The discretion of all parties involved was crucial to not reveal the identities of the women and children at the center.

This renovation would not have been possible without the incredible support of our team of subcontractors who dedicated their time and materials to do the necessary repairs. Johnson and Jordan upgraded the plumbing in the kitchen and all the bathrooms which included the installation of a new shower and water heater that supported the entire house. Ace Painting painted every wall, trim, and surface of the house that needed a fresh coat and Paul White Tile installed new flooring in the entire home. To ensure that the children had ample space to run and play the team did an entire cleanup of the front and back yards with the help of Atlantic Landscaping providing the mulch and Hammond Lumber donating all the materials to update the porches to include outdoor seating.

In just six short weeks, the Family Violence Project shelter is now an inviting space for any domestic violence survivors who needs a safe place to heal and recover. When we gathered at FVP’s newly renovated shelter to celebrate the opening, we were reminded about what it means to be part of a business that values relationship-building. The significance of this project was not about how much time and materials went into this renovation. It was about how a team came together to create spaces where all communities can thrive. We are grateful to the Family Violence Project for the work they do and for the residents in sharing their stories with us.
