Joined by other industry leaders, O’Brien shared what drew her to pursue a career in construction, and how her work as a Project Executive with Consigli Construction Co., Inc. inspires her.

“I find construction is just different than other industries in many ways, but what stuck out to me the most was really the tangible, lasting impact you know your work will have on a community. For me, that’s particularly true since I specialize in healthcare projects that are often complex and logistically challenging jobs usually being undertaken within an existing occupied hospital. It’s personally and professionally gratifying to know that my work will have a meaningful impact on the patients and the families and the community it serves.”

She also emphasized the importance of creating relationships and serve as a mentor for other women in the industry to help inspire confidence and build up future women leaders in construction.

“What I love about my role now is that I can help the younger generation navigate those difficult circumstances and conversations that we all run into as women in this industry and help them realize that they’re not alone…It’s particularly rewarding for me to be able to help provide that guidance or my perspective as this next generation is entering the industry.”

Kramer joined Consigli’s project development team in 2017. Prior to Consigli, he worked in the Hingham Public Schools as a middle school English teacher. In addition to his career as an educator, Kramer also worked for Team IMPACT, a nonprofit organization that matches children facing serious illness and disability with college sports teams to create long-term, meaningful experiences.

NAWIC is an international association of women employed in the construction industry that promotes and supports the advancement of women in the field through events to enrich the personal and professional lives of its members, as well as raises money for scholarships. There are more than 115 NAWIC chapters nationwide offering its membership education, support and networking opportunities for women in the trade to build technical and leadership skills.

Melissa Guertin has been a member of the NAWIC Boston Chapter since 2015 and was first elected to its board in 2016. Since then, she has held various leadership positions, including director and treasurer. A project manager, Melissa has been with Consigli since October 2021. Kelsey Holt has been an active member of NAWIC since 2014, and has served as director, secretary and as both Regional Membership Committee Chair and National Membership Chair. A member of the Consigli team since January 2020, Kelsey is a project manager.

Consigli employees are active in several NAWIC chapters, including Boston, Maine, Greater Worcester and Greater Washington, D.C., and several women hold leadership positions in additional chapters. Christina Consigli serves as Secretary of the Maine Chapter, Juliane Medd serves as both Director and Regional Marketing Chair of the Greater Washington, D.C. Chapter and Rachel Flynn served as Vice President of the Greater Worcester Chapter from 2021 until 2022.

“Thank you to Consigli for today’s donation of food, money and ongoing volunteer time. The holidays are looking much different for everyone this year, and many families will be experiencing food insecurity for the first time due of the impact of the COVID-19 crisis,” said Cheryl Schondek, Senior Vice President of The Greater Boston Food Bank. “With your ongoing support, we can end hunger here.”

This is the latest chapter in Consigli’s relationship with the City of Boston and The Greater Boston Food Bank. Consigli was a key partner in the original construction of The Greater Boston Food Bank’s Yawkey Distribution Center back in 2009, which allowed the organization to double the size of its existing warehouse by creating a new, sustainable headquarters in Boston’s South End. This new location accommodated 50 million pounds of food – a 67% increase over the old facility – and was built based on a zero export plan reusing existing pile caps and contaminated soil to save nearly $1M for the organization.

At the Hyatt Centric Hotel in the Financial District, Consigli utilized its preservation expertise to plan and execute the complex connection of a new, 11-story high-rise into an historic 1920s-era building, while utilizing innovative off-site pre-fabrication strategies to fast-track the building’s multi-material façade installation.

Consigli’s resume extends to other notable projects including Eataly at the Prudential Center, which is a high-end international retail marketplace with multiple restaurants and support kitchens. Consigli procured Eataly’s signature pizza ovens from Italy, and their self-perform craftspeople installed the surrounding countertops and stone cladding on the bread ovens. Presently, Consigli is managing the transformation of The Taj Hotel into The Newbury, which will include 273 updated guestrooms and a new, four-season rooftop featuring a five-star restaurant.
