The Davis Center, the College’s center for the advancement of institutional diversity, equity and inclusion, connects multiple buildings on campus and transformed existing facilities to better reflect the Center’s mission and serve current and future academic and cultural needs. Through a major new addition and comprehensive energy retrofit renovations to the 19^th century Rice and Jenness Houses, the new Davis Center provides fully accessible resources and community spaces for students and faculty.

Utilizing mass timber and engineered wood hybrid materials, the all-electric project removed fossil fuel-based heating systems and was built to rigorous environmental standards to support the College’s commitment to sustainability. It is targeting Petal Certification under the Living Building Challenge, as well as strict Energy Use Index requirements to reduce energy loads on campus.

Project teams recognized by ENR’s panel of judges were evaluated on their ability to overcome challenges, contribute to industry innovation and benefit the community, as well as overall excellence in design, construction and safety execution.

Members of the project team, Naomi Doddington and Jack Trainor, collaborated with architect SmithGroup to co-author an article that highlighted Consigli’s meticulous historic preservation work and extensive adaptive reuse that transformed one of Washington, D.C.’s oldest synagogues into a new, from-the-ground-up museum.

“This was a challenge, not only in terms of restoration but also in relation to the addition of structural systems and the creation of the water-tight environment needed for incorporation with the Museum. Careful restoration efforts ensured the synagogue could achieve appropriate museum standards, making it possible to create exhibition space on the first floor of this historic structure, and an engaging audiovisual exhibition on the second floor.”

Born and raised in the Capital Region, Rand joined Consigli nearly 20 years ago as an intern, and in 2013, she transferred to the Albany office. Since returning to the region, she has helped drive significant growth for Consigli in Upstate New York, with a proven track record of leading complex projects ranging from fast-track renovations to large, challenging projects throughout the area. In 2023, Rand was promoted to Regional Director and currently leads day-to-day operations, business development and strategic growth efforts for Consigli’s Albany office.

In addition to her operational and project excellence, Rand actively works to empower young women in the construction industry and leads Consigli’s community outreach and involvement efforts. University of New Hampshire, Thermal Energy Storage Tank

In lieu of installing a new chiller plant to meet a campus need for increased cooling, the University of New Hampshire (UNH) called for the construction of a TES tank that will store and deliver a minimum of 10,400 ton-hours of thermal energy as chilled water at 42°F. The implementation of this project will be a significant step in helping UNH achieve their sustainability goals highlighted in their Climate Action Plan, WildCAP. Consigli supported the University to maximize IRA credits, including:

• Review of tank components and steel for domestic content requirements.
• Subcontract development to clearly define apprenticeship requirements from each subcontractor.
• Tracking system creation and management to ensure weekly that all certified payrolls and apprenticeship hours were properly logged and submitted to the University.
